Knowledge Bomb #13: Go where you are valued
This is especially important if you are a minority of any kind. Go where you are valued. A lot of the times I see people who are in jobs at companies that don’t value them. People who have to fight just to be at work, fighting for pay rises, fighting to be part of a meeting or fighting to be heard.
I don’t mean for you to just quit at any sign of struggle but there comes a time when no matter how much you try you are not getting anywhere and that is when I say you should consider moving on and going somewhere else that works for you.
I had a situation with a manager where he constantly forgot to add me to meetings and communications. He would also not speak to me or communicate things to me, there was one occasion where he got another work colleague to give me feedback as he thought it would be better ‘woman to woman’. it got to the point where I would have to find out things through work gossip rather than my manager, after a good amount of time reminding him and trying to build a work relationship with him, I gave up and decided it was best for me to move on. He clearly didn’t value me so I went somewhere I was valued.
